Samwise Gamgee, often called Sam, is a central character in J.R.R. Tolkien's epic fantasy novel, The Lord of the Rings. He is a hobbit from the Shire, specifically from the village of Hobbiton.

Sam is Frodo Baggins' gardener and closest friend. He is initially drawn into the quest to destroy the One Ring accidentally, but quickly becomes an indispensable companion. His loyalty, courage, and practical nature are essential to Frodo's survival and the ultimate success of the mission.
