Blazing Skull, also known as Mark Todd, is a Marvel Comics superhero who debuted in Mystic Comics #5 in 1941 during the Golden Age of comics.
Todd was an American journalist covering the Sino-Japanese War. He sought refuge from Japanese forces in a cave inhabited by a tribe of skull-faced beings who possessed glowing heads. Injured, Todd was nursed back to health and subjected to an experimental ritual that rendered him immune to fire and endowed him with other abilities.
Donning a mask resembling a flaming skull, Todd became the Blazing Skull, fighting alongside other Golden Age heroes. His powers included fire immunity, enhanced strength and durability, and later, the ability to become invisible. He fought against the Axis powers during World War II.
Blazing Skull was later retconned into the modern Marvel Universe, having survived due to his unique physiology. He became associated with other long-lived heroes and groups like the Liberty Legion. He represents a lesser-known but intriguing facet of Marvel's rich history.
