Thomas "Black Tom" Cassidy is a Marvel Comics supervillain, primarily associated with the X-Men. He's an Irish mutant with the ability to manipulate, control, and merge with plant life.
Born into the wealthy Cassidy family, Tom's cousin is Sean Cassidy, a.k.a. Banshee. Their shared heritage caused a lifelong rivalry fueled by unrequited love for the same woman. Tom turned to a life of crime, earning the moniker "Black Tom" for his ruthlessness.
Black Tom's powers allow him to fire concussive blasts of energy through wood and to take root, gaining enhanced strength and resilience. He often wields a shillelagh, a traditional Irish walking stick, to focus his powers.
He's been a frequent foe of the X-Men, often teaming up with Juggernaut, forming a destructive and formidable partnership. He has been a member of several villainous groups, including the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants.
Over time, his mutation has advanced, sometimes to the point where he becomes completely plant-based, blurring the line between man and vegetation. He has been involved in many schemes threatening mutant and human-kind alike.
