Akuma, known as Gouki in Japan, is a prominent character in the Street Fighter fighting game series. He is defined by his pursuit of ultimate power through mastering the Satsui no Hado, a dark fighting style.
Akuma is the younger brother of Gouken, Ryu and Ken's master. He embraced the Satsui no Hado completely, while Gouken attempted to suppress it. This divergence led to a deadly confrontation, resulting in Gouken's apparent death, though later retconned.
Akuma's first appearance was in Super Street Fighter II Turbo as a hidden boss, marking the debut of the character as the dark master. His design is characterized by dark hair (often wild), red eyes, a dark gi, and the kanji "ten" (heaven) emblazoned on his back.
He continues to appear in many of the subsequent Street Fighter games, often as a powerful and challenging opponent.
