Hellboy, created by Mike Mignola, is a fictional character debuting in 1993 through Dark Horse Comics. Born Anung Un Rama on October 5, 1944, he is the result of a Nazi occult ritual intended to bring about the end of the world.

Instead, Hellboy was summoned to Earth by the Allied forces led by Professor Trevor Bruttenholm, who became his adoptive father. Raised within the Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defense (BPRD), Hellboy dedicated his life to fighting the forces of darkness that he was originally meant to unleash.

Hellboy is a large, red-skinned demon with a prehensile tail, cloven hooves, and horns (which he files down). His most distinctive feature is his oversized right hand, made of stone and known as the "Right Hand of Doom," the key to unleashing the apocalyptic Ogdru Jahad.

Despite his demonic origins and destiny, Hellboy strives to be a force for good, battling monsters, demons, and mad scientists while grappling with his own inner demons and the weight of his predetermined fate. He is known for his sardonic wit, love of pancakes, and unwavering commitment to protecting humanity, even as he understands he is destined to destroy it.
