Black Canary is a prominent DC Comics superheroine, primarily known for her martial arts prowess and sonic scream, dubbed the "Canary Cry." Two characters have held the mantle: Dinah Drake Lance, the original Black Canary, and her daughter, Dinah Laurel Lance, the more widely known successor.

Dinah Drake was a skilled martial artist and florist who fought crime in Gotham City. Post-Crisis on Infinite Earths, her origin was retconned to include a metagene activated by an incident involving magic, gifting her with the Canary Cry.

Dinah Laurel inherited both her mother's name and crime-fighting legacy. In most continuities, she naturally possesses the Canary Cry. Laurel is an expert hand-to-hand combatant, trained in numerous martial arts styles, often depicted as one of the DC Universe's foremost fighters. She has worked with teams like the Justice League, Birds of Prey, and Team Arrow.

Black Canary is often romantically linked to Green Arrow, with their relationship being a staple of DC Comics for decades.
