Firestorm, in The CW's Arrowverse, isn't a single individual, but rather a composite being formed through a process called transmutation. The primary iteration seen on The Flash and Legends of Tomorrow features two distinct consciousnesses sharing one body.
The initial Firestorm consists of Professor Martin Stein, a brilliant nuclear physicist, and Ronnie Raymond, a S.T.A.R. Labs engineer and Caitlin Snow's fiancé. After a particle accelerator explosion, they were fused together, with Stein acting as the "brain" and Ronnie providing the physical form and fiery powers.
Following Ronnie's heroic sacrifice, Stein was later fused with Jefferson "Jax" Jackson, a young mechanic and former high school athlete. Jax initially struggled with the merging process and the responsibilities of being Firestorm, but he eventually became a capable hero. This version eventually learned to separate and Jax went on to his own adventures.
Firestorm possesses the ability to transmute matter, projecting nuclear blasts and manipulating the molecular structure of objects. Their powers, combined with the distinct personalities of their composite members, made them a complex and valuable asset to Team Flash and the Legends.
