Alex DeLarge is the central character and narrator of Anthony Burgess's novel *A Clockwork Orange*, and Stanley Kubrick's 1971 film adaptation of the same name. He first appears in the film *A Clockwork Orange* (1971).
Alex is a charismatic but deeply disturbed juvenile delinquent living in a dystopian near-future Britain. He leads a gang of "droogs" and engages in acts of "ultra-violence" including rape, theft, and assault.
The character undergoes experimental aversion therapy designed to cure him of his violent tendencies, a process that dramatically alters his life and raises ethical questions about free will and the nature of good and evil. Alex is portrayed by Malcolm McDowell in the film.
