The Lord of the Rings

The Witch-king of Angmar, also known as the Lord of the Nazgûl, was the chief of the nine Ringwraiths, the most terrible servants of the Dark Lord Sauron. Originally a powerful King of Men, he was corrupted by one of the Rings of Power gifted to mortals. This Ring twisted him into a wraith, bound to Sauron's will and existing only in the twilight world between life and death.

He led Sauron's forces in the wars against Arnor, the northern kingdom of Gondor, eventually conquering and establishing the realm of Angmar in the far north. From there, he waged a long and brutal war, ultimately destroying Arnor and scattering its people. This cemented his reputation as a formidable and fearsome military commander.

Throughout the War of the Ring, the Witch-king played a crucial role. He led the assault on Minas Tirith, nearly breaking the city's defenses. However, prophecy foretold that he could not be killed by any man, a fate he met at the hands of Éowyn, a woman who disguised herself as a man, and the hobbit Merry Brandybuck. His destruction marked a significant turning point in the war and contributed to Sauron's final defeat.
