Taneleer Tivan, known as The Collector, is an Elder of the Universe in Marvel Comics. Born billions of years ago, he predates most known civilizations. He became obsessed with collecting rare and powerful objects, artifacts, and lifeforms from across the cosmos after his family perished due to his inability to foresee a universal threat.
