Darth Maul was a menacing Sith Lord who served as the apprentice of Darth Sidious (Emperor Palpatine) in the Star Wars prequel era.

Born on the planet Iridonia and a member of the Dathomirian Zabrak species, Maul was taken as an infant by Sidious and trained ruthlessly in the dark arts of the Force. He became a highly skilled warrior, master of various martial arts, and proficient with a double-bladed lightsaber.

Maul first appeared in Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace as Sidious's enforcer, tasked with eliminating Jedi Knights Qui-Gon Jinn and Obi-Wan Kenobi. He engaged them in a memorable duel, ultimately killing Qui-Gon Jinn before being defeated by Obi-Wan, who severed Maul in two and sent him plummeting down a shaft.

Presumed dead for years, Maul survived due to his rage and connection to the dark side, rebuilding his body with robotic legs. Driven by vengeance, he sought to destroy Obi-Wan and Sidious, becoming a major player in the Clone Wars, forming criminal syndicates, and even ruling Mandalore for a time.

Darth Maul ultimately met his end at the hands of Obi-Wan Kenobi on Tatooine in the animated series Star Wars: Rebels, finally finding a sense of peace as he died knowing the Sith would be defeated.
