Bilbo Baggins was a hobbit of the Shire, residing at Bag End in Hobbiton. Born to Bungo Baggins and Belladonna Took, he inherited his father's respectable Baggins nature and his mother's adventurous Took blood.

Initially content with a comfortable and predictable life, Bilbo's world was upended by the unexpected arrival of Gandalf the wizard and thirteen dwarves. They recruited him as their burglar on a quest to reclaim their treasure from the dragon Smaug, deep within the Lonely Mountain.

Although reluctant at first, Bilbo joined the company, proving to be surprisingly resourceful and brave. He notably acquired the One Ring in the tunnels of the Misty Mountains after encountering the creature Gollum. This ring granted invisibility, aiding him and the dwarves in their journey.

Bilbo played a crucial role in the success of the quest, ultimately returning to the Shire a changed hobbit, enriched by his experiences and the gold he carried. His adventures broadened his perspective, setting him apart from the other hobbits and laying the groundwork for later events in Middle-earth.
