Biography:
Richard "Cheech" Marin is an American actor, comedian, writer, and activist, best known for his work as one half of the comedy duo Cheech & Chong. Born July 13, 1946, in Los Angeles, California, Marin rose to prominence in the 1970s with partner Tommy Chong, creating a counter-culture brand of comedy centered on marijuana use, social satire, and Latino identity.
Cheech & Chong's success spanned stand-up albums and a series of successful films, including "Up in Smoke" (1978), "Cheech and Chong's Next Movie" (1980), and "Nice Dreams" (1981). These films became iconic for their stoner humor and commentary on American society.
Following the duo's split in the mid-1980s, Marin pursued a successful solo career. He starred in films like "Born in East L.A." (1987), which he also wrote and directed, focusing on the experiences of a Mexican-American mistakenly deported to Mexico. He also had roles in "Tin Cup" and "From Dusk Till Dawn". He is a well-known voice actor in many animated children's films such as "The Lion King" as Banzai and "Cars". He has also appeared on television shows such as "Nash Bridges" and "Rob" and is also a champion for Latino art and culture and owns an extensive collection.
