Credence Barebone is a central figure in the Fantastic Beasts film series, part of the Wizarding World created by J.K. Rowling. He is introduced as a severely abused young man living in New York City during the 1920s.

Believing himself to be a Muggle, Credence is the adopted son of Mary Lou Barebone, the leader of the New Salem Philanthropic Society, a group dedicated to eradicating witches and wizards. Mary Lou subjects Credence to horrific physical and emotional abuse, contributing to his immense inner turmoil.

This abuse leads Credence to unconsciously develop into an Obscurus, a dark parasitic force that manifests when a young witch or wizard suppresses their magical abilities. Obscurials rarely live past childhood, but Credence's power is exceptionally strong, making him a dangerous and volatile force.

Later in the series, Credence learns the truth about his origins. He is revealed to be Aurelius Dumbledore, the long-lost brother of Albus and Aberforth Dumbledore. His identity as a Dumbledore further complicates his already tragic life and places him at the center of the ongoing conflict between Albus Dumbledore and Gellert Grindelwald.
