Astro Boy, originally known as Tetsuwan Atom, is a fictional character and the protagonist of the manga and anime series of the same name, created by Osamu Tezuka. He is a powerful android with a human-like appearance.

Born on April 7, 2003 (in the original manga's timeline), Astro Boy was created by Dr. Tenma, the head of the Ministry of Science. Dr. Tenma created Astro Boy as a replacement for his deceased son, Tobio. Initially, Astro was built to physically resemble Tobio, but Dr. Tenma eventually grew frustrated with Astro's lack of human emotions and sold him to a circus.

Professor Ochanomizu rescued Astro from the circus and recognized his potential. He became Astro's guardian and mentor, giving him a new purpose: to fight for justice and peace between humans and robots. Astro Boy possesses superhuman strength, flight capabilities (powered by rocket propulsion in his feet), and an array of weaponry built into his body, including finger lasers and machine guns in his hips. He is a symbol of hope and technological advancement used for the betterment of humanity.
