Hercules, in Disney's animated film, is the son of Zeus and Hera, king and queen of the gods. As an infant, Hades, God of the Underworld, attempts to kill him to prevent a prophecy that Hercules will thwart his plans to overthrow Zeus.

Hercules is rendered mortal by Hades' henchmen, Pain and Panic, but retains his superhuman strength. He is found and raised by Amphitryon and Alcmene, who name him Hercules and raise him as their own. Growing up, his incredible strength causes him to be an outcast.

Upon discovering his true parentage and destiny, Hercules is told he must become a true hero to rejoin his father on Mount Olympus. He trains with Philoctetes, a satyr who once trained many heroes, and embarks on a journey, battling monsters and saving lives to prove his worth.

Throughout his journey, Hercules falls in love with Megara. Hercules chooses to stay with Megara in order to save her life from Hades and becomes a true hero and gets to reunite with his father Zeus on Mount Olympus.
