Davy Crockett, often romanticized, was a frontiersman, soldier, and politician who lived from 1786 to 1836. Born in Tennessee, he gained fame as a bear hunter and Indian fighter, skills honed in the wild landscapes of the American frontier. He served as a U.S. Representative for Tennessee, advocating for the rights of squatters and opposing President Andrew Jackson's Indian Removal Act.
Crockett's folksy demeanor and self-promotional abilities fueled his popularity, turning him into a national figure. His image was further enhanced through almanacs and plays that portrayed him as a larger-than-life hero. Despite his political career ending after losing reelection, Crockett remains an American icon.
He is best known for his involvement in the Texas Revolution. Crockett traveled to Texas and joined the Texian forces defending the Alamo against the Mexican army. He died during the Battle of the Alamo in March 1836, solidifying his legendary status and contributing to the Texian cause for independence.
