Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III is the protagonist of the "How to Train Your Dragon" franchise, spanning films, television series, and books.
Born on the Viking island of Berk, Hiccup is initially portrayed as a scrawny and awkward teenager, far removed from the typical Viking stereotype. He is the son of Stoick the Vast, the chieftain of the Hooligan tribe. Early on, Hiccup struggles to fit in with his peers and prove his worth as a Viking.
Hiccup's life takes a dramatic turn when he shoots down a Night Fury, a dragon previously considered untamable. Instead of killing the dragon, which he names Toothless, Hiccup befriends him.
