Kratos is a video game character and the central protagonist of Sony Santa Monica's God of War franchise. First appearing in 2005's *God of War*, he is a Spartan warrior known for his immense strength, rage, and brutal combat skills.
Initially a servant of the Olympian gods, Kratos's past is marred by tragedy. Tricked by Ares, the God of War, into murdering his own wife and child, he is forever haunted by this act and branded with their ashes, earning him the title "Ghost of Sparta."
Driven by vengeance, Kratos embarks on a quest to kill Ares, ultimately succeeding and taking his place as the new God of War. However, his insatiable thirst for power and uncontrollable rage lead him to betray the Olympians, triggering a war that decimates the pantheon.
Following the Greek saga, Kratos journeys to the Norse realm in the 2018 *God of War*. Now a father to Atreus, he attempts to suppress his rage and guide his son while confronting new threats and grappling with his past. He continues this saga into *God of War: Ragnarok*
