The Mandalorian, also known as Din Djarin, is the protagonist of the Disney+ Star Wars series, The Mandalorian. He is a lone gunfighter and bounty hunter operating in the outer reaches of the galaxy, five years after the fall of the Empire. He is a Mandalorian foundling, rescued as a child and raised in their warrior culture.
Djarin adheres strictly to the Mandalorian Creed, which dictates his actions and beliefs, including never removing his helmet in front of others. His early life remains largely a mystery, save for glimpses of a Separatist attack that orphaned him.
His life changes dramatically when he is contracted to retrieve "The Child," later known as Grogu. Instead of delivering him to his Imperial client, Djarin develops a paternal bond with Grogu and chooses to protect him, violating the Bounty Hunters' Guild code and making him a target.
Throughout the series, Djarin navigates a dangerous galaxy, facing Imperial remnants, rival bounty hunters, and other threats while seeking to reunite Grogu with others of his kind. He also begins to question and evolve his strict adherence to the Mandalorian Creed, eventually removing his helmet in some situations.
