Kyle Rayner, initially a struggling freelance artist, was unexpectedly chosen by Ganthet, a Guardian of the Universe, to wield the last Green Lantern ring after Hal Jordan's fall to Parallax. Untrained and inexperienced, Kyle's imagination and artistic flair allowed him to create unique and powerful constructs, making him a formidable Green Lantern.

Following a period of mastering his Green Lantern abilities and coping with the legacy of his predecessor, Kyle's path took a transformative turn during the "Blackest Night" event. He briefly became a Blue Lantern, then ultimately ascended to become the White Lantern.

As a White Lantern, Kyle Rayner wielded the entire spectrum of emotional energy, possessing power over life itself. His abilities included resurrection, energy manipulation across all colors of the emotional spectrum, and a deeper understanding of the universe's fundamental forces. Kyle's time as the White Lantern was defined by attempts to master and control this immense power and his efforts to restore life and balance to the universe after the devastating events of the Blackest Night and Brightest Day.
