Biography:
Joe Exotic, born Joseph Allen Maldonado-Passage (formerly Schreibvogel) on March 5, 1963, is an American former zookeeper, businessman, and convicted felon. He gained notoriety as the owner and operator of the Greater Wynnewood Exotic Animal Park in Wynnewood, Oklahoma.
Exotic cultivated a flamboyant public persona, marked by his eccentric appearance, multiple failed political campaigns (including a run for President in 2016 and Governor of Oklahoma in 2018), and a career in country music. He documented his life and activities extensively online, building a substantial following.
His fame intensified with the release of the Netflix docuseries "Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem and Madness" in 2020. The series detailed his long-standing feud with Carole Baskin, founder of Big Cat Rescue, and his eventual conviction on 17 federal charges of animal abuse and two counts of attempted murder-for-hire, targeting Baskin. He is currently serving a 21-year prison sentence.
