Gareth Southgate is a prominent figure in English football, best known for his role as the manager of the England national team. Born in Watford, England, he began his professional playing career as a defender for Crystal Palace in 1992.
He subsequently played for Aston Villa and Middlesbrough, captaining the latter and winning the League Cup with both clubs. He also earned 57 caps for England as a player, representing his country at the 1998 FIFA World Cup and the 1996 and 2000 European Championships.
After retiring as a player, Southgate transitioned into management, initially with Middlesbrough. Following a period working with the FA, he became England under-21 manager in 2013. In 2016, he was appointed as the interim manager of the senior England team, later becoming the permanent manager. Under his leadership, England reached the semi-finals of the 2018 FIFA World Cup and the final of Euro 2020, achieving their best results in major tournaments since 1966.
