Biography:
Alexander Hamilton (c. 1755 or 1757 – 1804) was a Founding Father of the United States, a leading statesman, and an influential interpreter and promoter of the U.S. Constitution. Born out of wedlock in the British West Indies, he rose to prominence during the American Revolutionary War, serving as an aide-de-camp to General George Washington.
Following the war, Hamilton was a key figure in the movement to create a stronger national government. He served as a delegate to the Constitutional Convention and co-authored the Federalist Papers, advocating for the Constitution's ratification. Under President Washington, Hamilton was the first Secretary of the Treasury, where he established the nation's financial system, including the national bank and a system of tariffs.
A brilliant and ambitious figure, Hamilton's political career was marked by controversy. He was a staunch Federalist and clashed with Thomas Jefferson and James Madison, who led the Democratic-Republican party. His life was tragically cut short in a duel with his political rival, Aaron Burr.
