He Who Remains is a character appearing in the Marvel Cinematic Universe television series, Loki. He resides at the Citadel at the End of Time, a location beyond the reach of the Time Variance Authority (TVA).
He Who Remains explains that he was a scientist from Earth in the 31st century who, along with his variants, discovered the multiverse. Initial cooperation led to technological advancements, but eventually, variants began warring over resources and power.
To prevent a multiversal war and protect the "Sacred Timeline", He Who Remains created the TVA. The TVA's purpose was to prune any branching timelines that deviated from the Sacred Timeline. He Who Remains effectively orchestrated events to maintain a singular timeline.
