Biography:
Guan Yu, also known as Guan Gong, was a pivotal general serving under the warlord Liu Bei during the late Eastern Han dynasty and the Three Kingdoms period of Chinese history. A sworn brother to Liu Bei and Zhang Fei, he is a central figure in the historical novel *Romance of the Three Kingdoms*.
Renowned for his unparalleled loyalty, righteousness, and martial prowess, Guan Yu is often depicted with a long beard and red face. He played a key role in many of Liu Bei's early victories, showcasing exceptional bravery in battles like the Battle of Baima, where he slew the enemy general Yan Liang.
Captured by Cao Cao, Guan Yu served him temporarily but famously refused to abandon his loyalty to Liu Bei. He eventually rejoined Liu Bei and remained a vital commander in the establishment of the Shu Han dynasty. His death at the hands of Sun Quan's forces marked a significant loss for Shu Han.
Following his death, Guan Yu was deified and is now revered as a god of war, wealth, and protection in Chinese folk religion and Confucianism. He is a symbol of unwavering loyalty, integrity, and strength.
