Jawas are diminutive, hooded scavengers native to the desert planet Tatooine. Their faces are always obscured by dark cloaks and glowing yellow eyes.
They roam the Dune Sea and other arid regions in massive, mobile fortresses called Sandcrawlers, searching for discarded technology and scrap metal to salvage. These salvaged items are then repaired (often poorly) and sold or traded to settlers and moisture farmers.
Jawas possess a unique language of guttural sounds, which is often communicated through electronic devices called vocabulator boxes. They also have a penchant for capturing droids, as seen in Star Wars: A New Hope, when they capture R2-D2 and C-3PO.
Known for their cunning and sometimes unscrupulous business practices, Jawas play a vital, albeit sometimes irritating, role in the economy of Tatooine, providing essential resources to its inhabitants.
