Biography:
Liu Bang (256-195 BCE), posthumously known as Emperor Gaozu of Han, was the founder and first emperor of the Han dynasty of China, reigning from 202 to 195 BCE. Born a peasant, he rose to prominence during the Qin dynasty's collapse, leading a rebellion against its oppressive rule.
Initially a minor official, Liu Bang distinguished himself as a charismatic leader, attracting a large following. He skillfully navigated complex political alliances and military campaigns, ultimately defeating his main rival, Xiang Yu, for control of China.
Following his victory, Liu Bang established the Han dynasty, marking a significant period in Chinese history. He implemented policies aimed at stabilizing the empire, including reducing taxes, promoting agriculture, and adopting Confucian principles to govern the state. He appointed loyal followers to key positions, establishing a centralized administration. Though remembered for his strategic brilliance and common origins, his reign was also marked by power struggles and purges of those he deemed threats.
