Muzan Kibutsuji is the primary antagonist of the manga series Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba. He is the progenitor of all demons, possessing immense power and the ability to create and control other demons through his blood.

Originally a human during the Heian period, Muzan was afflicted with a terminal illness. A doctor attempted to cure him with a special prototype medicine derived from the Blue Spider Lily. Impatient and believing the medicine was ineffective, Muzan killed the doctor before it could fully work. He soon realized the medicine had partially cured him, granting him incredible strength and immortality, but also transformed him into a demon vulnerable to sunlight.

Driven by a relentless desire to overcome his vulnerability to sunlight and achieve perfect immortality, Muzan spends centuries searching for the Blue Spider Lily and creating more demons, hoping one of them will become immune to the sun's rays. He is ruthless and manipulative, willing to sacrifice anyone and anything to achieve his goals. He is the one who transformed Tanjiro Kamado's sister, Nezuko, into a demon, setting the stage for the entire series.
