Jiang Wei, also known as Boyue, was a prominent military general and strategist of the Shu Han state during the Three Kingdoms period of Chinese history. Originally serving under Cao Wei, he defected to Shu after being highly impressed by Zhuge Liang, Shu's brilliant strategist and Prime Minister.
Recognized for his intelligence and martial prowess, Jiang Wei was quickly promoted by Zhuge Liang and became a key figure in Shu's military campaigns against Wei. He inherited Zhuge Liang's strategic vision and continued the Northern Expeditions, aiming to restore the Han Dynasty by conquering Wei. His military campaigns were often strategic but achieved limited territorial gains, straining Shu's resources.
After the fall of Shu Han to Wei, Jiang Wei initially surrendered. However, he secretly plotted to revive the Shu state by inciting internal conflict within Wei, hoping to exploit the ambitions of Zhong Hui. This plan failed, leading to his death and the suppression of the Shu remnants. Despite his ultimate failure, Jiang Wei is remembered as a loyal and dedicated figure who tirelessly fought to uphold the legacy of Shu Han and realize Zhuge Liang's ambitions.
