Biography:
Merryweather is one of the three good fairies in Disney's animated film, Sleeping Beauty (1959). Along with Flora and Fauna, she is summoned to Princess Aurora's christening to bestow a blessing upon her.
Unlike Flora and Fauna, Merryweather is unable to give Aurora a positive gift because Maleficent appears and curses the child to die on her sixteenth birthday. Merryweather, having not yet given her gift, softens Maleficent's curse, changing death into a deep sleep that can be broken by true love's kiss.
Merryweather is known for her fiery temper and her signature color is blue. She is generally depicted as shorter and plumper than Flora and Fauna. She is very protective of Aurora and constantly at odds with Flora, often resulting in comedic moments during the film.
She contributes significantly to protecting Aurora from Maleficent's evil by helping to raise her in secret as a peasant girl named Briar Rose and by ultimately helping Prince Phillip defeat Maleficent to break the curse.
