Fa Mulan is a fictional character inspired by the legendary Hua Mulan from Chinese folklore. She is best known as the protagonist of Disney's 1998 animated film, Mulan, and its 2004 sequel.

Mulan is a young woman living in ancient China who is pressured to conform to societal expectations of women. However, she feels stifled by these expectations and desires a life with more meaning.

When her elderly father is called upon to serve in the army to fight the invading Huns, Mulan, knowing he is too weak, disguises herself as a man named "Ping" and takes his place. She undergoes rigorous training and proves her worth, eventually becoming a skilled warrior.

Mulan's bravery and strategic thinking are instrumental in defeating the Huns and saving China. In doing so, she breaks social norms, challenges traditional gender roles, and earns the respect of her fellow soldiers and the Emperor. She is honored as a hero and returns home to her family.
