Cyclops, also known as Scott Summers, is a prominent member of the X-Men in Marvel Comics. A powerful mutant, he possesses the ability to emit optic blasts, beams of pure concussive force, from his eyes. These blasts are typically contained by ruby quartz lenses he wears as glasses or a visor.
The Phoenix Five Cyclops represents a significant and controversial chapter in the character's history. During the "Avengers vs. X-Men" event, five X-Men, including Cyclops, became hosts for fragments of the Phoenix Force. This immensely powerful cosmic entity granted each of them god-like abilities.
While initially intending to use the Phoenix Force to create a mutant utopia and solve global problems, the power corrupted Cyclops and the other Phoenix Five members. His actions became increasingly extreme and authoritarian, leading to conflict with the Avengers and other X-Men who feared the Phoenix's influence. Ultimately, Cyclops fully succumbed to the Phoenix Force, becoming the Dark Phoenix before being defeated.
