Meriadoc Brandybuck, commonly known as Merry, was a hobbit of the Shire, belonging to the Brandybuck family of Buckland. Born in T.A. 2982, he was a cousin and close friend of Frodo Baggins.

Merry played a crucial role in the War of the Ring. He was among the hobbits who volunteered to accompany Frodo on his quest to destroy the One Ring. While his initial role was supportive, his resourcefulness and loyalty proved invaluable.

He was separated from the Fellowship, along with Pippin Took, and captured by orcs. They escaped into Fangorn Forest, where they encountered Treebeard and helped to incite the Ents against Isengard. Merry fought at the Battle of the Hornburg, earning renown for his bravery.

Later, Merry became a squire of Rohan and served King Théoden. He accompanied Théoden to the Battle of the Pelennor Fields, where he assisted Éowyn in slaying the Witch-king of Angmar. His actions directly contributed to the victory of the Free Peoples. After the war, Merry returned to the Shire and served as Master of Buckland.
