Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo is a Mexican politician and scientist who currently serves as the Head of Government of Mexico City. Born in Mexico City to parents of Ashkenazi Jewish background, her parents were both scientists.
Sheinbaum earned a Ph.D. in Energy Engineering from the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM). She was a member of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), which won the Nobel Peace Prize in 2007.
She entered politics as Secretary of Environment for Mexico City under Mayor Andrés Manuel López Obrador. She served as the borough mayor of Tlalpan from 2015 to 2017.
In 2018, Sheinbaum was elected Head of Government of Mexico City, becoming the first woman elected to the position. As Head of Government, she has focused on environmental issues, transportation, and public safety.
