Ling Tong was a skilled general serving under Sun Quan in the Eastern Wu during the late Eastern Han dynasty and the Three Kingdoms period of Chinese history. He was the son of Ling Cao, who was killed in battle by Gan Ning. Despite this, Ling Tong admired Gan Ning's abilities and Sun Quan eventually persuaded them to reconcile.

He distinguished himself in numerous battles, including the Battle of Jiangxia where he played a vital role in the defense against Huang Zu's forces. He was known for his bravery and martial prowess, often fighting at the forefront of battles. Ling Tong also served with distinction at the Battle of Red Cliffs, where his actions were instrumental in the Wu-Shu alliance victory.

Beyond his battlefield skills, Ling Tong was known for his personal charm and loyalty. His contributions to Eastern Wu were significant, and he was remembered as a valiant and respected warrior even after his early death in his late twenties.
