Edward Kenway is a fictional character, serving as the protagonist of the 2013 video game Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag. Born in Swansea, Wales, in 1693, Edward began his life as a rebellious and ambitious young man.
Driven by a desire for wealth and glory, he left his family and became a privateer in the Caribbean. Initially uninterested in the conflict between the Assassin and Templar orders, circumstances led him to become entangled in their centuries-long struggle.
Through various exploits, and his capture of an assassin, Edward took the assassin’s place and grew both richer and knowledgeable of the assassin-Templar war.
Over time, Edward came to embrace the Assassin ideals of freedom and free will.
