White Walkers, also known as the Others, are a primary antagonistic force in HBO's Game of Thrones, adapted from George R.R. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire series. They are ancient, humanoid creatures originating from the Lands of Always Winter, beyond the Wall in the far north of Westeros.
Resurrected corpses known as wights form the bulk of their army. Led by the Night King, their leader, the White Walkers possess supernatural abilities, including the power to raise the dead and command intense cold. They are vulnerable to dragonglass (obsidian) and Valyrian steel.
Their motivations remain largely mysterious throughout the series. The White Walkers represent a constant and existential threat to all living beings, embodying a relentless winter that seeks to extinguish all warmth and life. The series culminates with the Great War, where the living must unite to fight against their army.
