Roberto da Costa, known as Sunspot, is a Brazilian mutant in the Marvel Universe. He possesses the ability to absorb and channel solar energy, granting him superhuman strength, durability, and the capacity to project blasts of concussive force.
Sunspot first appeared in Marvel Graphic Novel #4: The New Mutants in 1982. He was one of the founding members of the New Mutants, a team of teenage mutants mentored by Charles Xavier. Initially hot-headed and impulsive, Roberto matured over time, becoming a more strategic and responsible leader.
He has been a member of several prominent teams including X-Force, the Avengers, and U.S.Avengers. During his time leading A.I.M. (Advanced Idea Mechanics), he attempted to reform the organization. He also purchased the bankrupt Enigma Technologies, renaming it Da Costa International, showing his business acumen.
