Courtney Whitmore, known as Stargirl, is a superheroine in the DC Universe. She began her superheroic career after discovering the Cosmic Staff, originally wielded by Starman, in her stepfather Pat Dugan's possessions.
Pat, formerly Star-Spangled Kid's sidekick Stripesy, reveals he was a member of the Justice Society of America. Courtney adopts the mantle of Star-Spangled Kid (briefly) before becoming Stargirl, honoring Starman and forging her own legacy.
Stargirl possesses the Cosmic Staff, granting her flight, energy projection, and enhanced strength. She champions justice, often alongside the Justice Society of America, and later leads a new generation of heroes in Blue Valley, Nebraska.
