Ego is a sentient, living planet in the Marvel Universe. He possesses a massive intellect, psionic abilities, and control over his own planetary environment. He was created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, first appearing in Thor #132 (1966).

Ego was initially a scientist named Egros on a planet destroyed by a supernova. He merged with the planet's remaining life force, becoming a living celestial body. Driven by a desire for expansion and conquest, Ego often clashed with various heroes, including Thor and the Fantastic Four.

He can manipulate his surface, creating landscapes, launching energy blasts, and even forming humanoid avatars. Ego's immense power comes with a certain instability. He is often driven by loneliness and seeks connection, a desire that sometimes leads to disastrous consequences.

Later portrayals have explored more complex aspects of Ego's character, particularly his relationship with his son, Peter Quill (Star-Lord). While presented as a benevolent figure initially, Ego's true, destructive nature as a cosmic conqueror is eventually revealed, leading to a tragic confrontation.
