Toad, also known as Mortimer Toynbee, is a Marvel Comics supervillain most notably associated with the X-Men. He first appeared in X-Men #4 in 1964, created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby.
Originally conceived as a weak and subservient member of Magneto's Brotherhood of Evil Mutants, Toad's primary power is his enhanced leaping ability, agility, and a long, prehensile tongue. He possesses superhuman reflexes and a slippery secretion on his skin.
Throughout his history, Toad has undergone several transformations and power enhancements, sometimes attempting to shed his subservient role and become a more formidable threat. While often portrayed as a comical and pathetic figure, he has occasionally demonstrated cunning and ambition.
He has been both an enemy and, on occasion, a reluctant ally to the X-Men, his allegiance shifting depending on his circumstances and personal goals. Though frequently underestimated, Toad remains a recurring character in the Marvel Universe, representing a marginalized figure struggling for power and respect.
