Jyn Erso is a pivotal character in the Star Wars anthology film, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Born to Galen Erso, a brilliant scientist, and Lyra Erso, Jyn's early life was disrupted by the Galactic Empire's pursuit of her father for his kyber crystal research.
Following her mother's death and her father's forced conscription into the Empire, Jyn was raised by Saw Gerrera, a Rebel extremist. He eventually abandoned her to further her self-reliance. This abandonment fostered a deep distrust of others in Jyn.
As an adult, Jyn lived a life of survival, becoming a skilled fighter and thief. Her criminal past eventually led to her capture by the Rebel Alliance, who recognized her connection to Galen and recruited her to retrieve a message from him.
Ultimately, Jyn spearheaded the mission to steal the plans for the Death Star from the Imperial facility on Scarif. This act of rebellion became instrumental in the Rebel Alliance's eventual victory over the Empire, although she perished in the process.
