The Lord of the Rings

Elrond is a pivotal figure in J.R.R. Tolkien's legendarium, most notably appearing in The Lord of the Rings. He is a half-elven lord, wise and powerful, who resides in Rivendell, also known as Imladris, a haven for elves and other beings seeking refuge.

Born in the First Age, Elrond is the son of Eärendil the Mariner and Elwing, and the brother of Elros, who chose a mortal fate and became the first King of Númenor. Elrond chose to be counted among the Eldar, the elves. He participated in the War of Wrath, which saw the defeat of Morgoth.

In the Second Age, Elrond served as Gil-galad's herald and founded Rivendell after Sauron's rise to power. He fought in the War of the Last Alliance, witnessing the defeat of Sauron at the hands of Isildur. He urged Isildur to destroy the One Ring but was ignored.

Throughout the Third Age, Elrond remained in Rivendell, offering counsel and aid to those who sought it. He hosted the Council of Elrond, where the Fellowship of the Ring was formed. He eventually sailed West with the other Ring-bearers at the end of the Third Age, departing Middle-earth for Valinor.
