Buzz Lightyear, as presented in the Toy Story franchise, is a space ranger action figure. He arrives at Andy Davis's house believing himself to be a real member of Star Command, on a mission to return to his home planet.

Initially unaware he is a toy, Buzz's defining characteristics are his unwavering dedication to his mission, his belief in Star Command's authority, and his collection of perceived "high-tech" features, such as pop-out wings, a laser (actually a light), and recorded phrases.

Throughout the series, Buzz undergoes significant character development. He grapples with the revelation of his true nature as a toy, learns the importance of friendship and loyalty, and eventually embraces his role as a beloved member of Andy's toy family.

His catchphrase, "To infinity... and beyond!" has become iconic, symbolizing limitless possibilities and adventurous spirit. He is voiced primarily by Tim Allen in the films.
