Katherine "Kitty" Pryde, also known as Shadowcat, is a fictional superheroine appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. Created by Chris Claremont and John Byrne, she first appeared in Uncanny X-Men #129 (January 1980).

Kitty is a mutant with the power to "phase" or "ghost" through solid matter. This allows her to become intangible, rendering her invulnerable to physical attacks and letting her walk through walls. She can also extend this ability to other people and objects.

A brilliant computer expert and skilled martial artist, Kitty has been a prominent member of the X-Men for many years. She has often served as the team's conscience and has formed strong bonds with many of its members, particularly Wolverine, who became a mentor to her.

Over the course of her history, Kitty has held various leadership roles within the X-Men and has been involved in numerous significant storylines, often facing morally complex situations and grappling with difficult decisions about the mutant/human relationship.
