Harley Quinn, portrayed by Margot Robbie, is a prominent character in the DC Extended Universe (DCEU). She first appeared in the 2016 film Suicide Squad as the unhinged and unpredictable former psychiatrist of the Joker, driven to madness and obsession by her love for him.
Before her transformation, Harleen Quinzel was a successful psychiatrist at Arkham Asylum. Her fascination with the Joker led her to psychoanalyze him, ultimately falling under his influence and becoming his accomplice and lover, adopting the persona of Harley Quinn.
After the Joker's apparent death, Harley Quinn is recruited into Amanda Waller's Task Force X, also known as the Suicide Squad. The team of incarcerated supervillains is forced to undertake dangerous missions for the U.S. government in exchange for reduced sentences.
Quinn subsequently starred in Birds of Prey (2020), where she navigates her newfound independence following her break-up with the Joker. She later returns in The Suicide Squad (2021), once again as a member of the titular team on another perilous mission. Her character is defined by her chaotic energy, remarkable combat skills, and a surprising degree of moral ambiguity, often oscillating between villainy and heroism.
