Biography:
The "Arab Swordsman" is a nameless, non-speaking character featured in the 1981 film, Raiders of the Lost Ark. He appears briefly in Cairo, Egypt, during Indiana Jones's search for Marion Ravenwood.
His primary function in the plot is to serve as a momentary obstacle for Indiana Jones. Dressed in traditional Arabic clothing, including a flowing robe and carrying a gleaming scimitar, the swordsman aggressively confronts Jones in a crowded marketplace.
He engages in an elaborate sword-twirling display, seemingly taunting Jones with his skill and presumed threat. However, rather than engaging in a prolonged fight, Indiana Jones, seemingly unimpressed and displaying impatience, simply pulls out his revolver and shoots the swordsman, immediately ending the confrontation.
The Arab Swordsman's demise has become a memorable, and somewhat controversial, comedic moment in the film, highlighting Indiana Jones's pragmatism and resourcefulness over traditional displays of heroism. He is portrayed by stuntman Terry Richards.
