Carl Lucas, later known as Luke Cage, is a former police officer framed for a crime he didn't commit. In prison, he volunteers for an experimental procedure designed to accelerate healing.
This procedure, sabotaged by a corrupt prison guard, grants Lucas superhuman strength and unbreakable skin. Escaping prison, he adopts the name Luke Cage and seeks to live a quiet life in Harlem.
However, Harlem's criminal underbelly, controlled by Cornell "Cottonmouth" Stokes and his cousin Mariah Dillard, forces Cage to use his abilities to protect the innocent. He initially works as a reluctant hero for hire, but eventually embraces his role as a champion of the community.
Cage's past continues to haunt him, as he contends with powerful enemies and difficult choices. He forms alliances with Misty Knight and Claire Temple, who become instrumental in his fight against corruption. Ultimately, Luke Cage becomes a symbol of hope and resistance for the people of Harlem.
