Luke Cage, better known as Power Man, is a Marvel Comics superhero who first appeared in 1972. Born Carl Lucas in Harlem, New York, he was wrongly convicted of a crime and imprisoned.
While incarcerated, Lucas volunteered for an experimental procedure designed to accelerate cellular regeneration. This treatment, sabotaged by a corrupt prison guard, granted him superhuman strength, durability, and bulletproof skin.
Escaping prison, Lucas adopted the name Luke Cage and became a hero for hire, operating initially out of New York City. He eventually became known as Power Man, using his abilities to protect the innocent and fight injustice, often alongside his partner Iron Fist.
